Peñarol Edges Out Olimpia in Thrilling Libertadores Clash
Montevideo, Uruguay – Peñarol defeated Olimpia 3-2 in a thrilling encounter at the Estadio Campeón del Siglo, in the fifth round of the 2025 CONMEBOL Libertadores group stage. The match, officiated by Colombia’s Wilmar Roldán, was characterized by its intensity and fluctuating scoreline.
Olimpia took the lead with goals from L. López in the 13th minute and I. Leguizamon in the 37th. However, Peñarol responded strongly in the second half. L. Fernandez pulled one back in the 50th minute, M. Olivera equalized in the 55th, and E. Remedi secured the victory in the 73rd. Despite Peñarol’s possession advantage (60%), Olimpia created chances, albeit with less accuracy (15 shots compared to Peñarol’s 23). The game also saw three yellow cards for Olimpia and one for Peñarol.
