Ivory Coast Dominates Burkina Faso in Marrakech
Marrakech, Morocco – Ivory Coast convincingly defeated Burkina Faso at the Grand Stade de Marrakech in a Round of 16 match of the Africa Cup of Nations. The Ivorian team, with 58% ball possession, controlled the pace of the game and created numerous scoring opportunities.
The score was opened in the 20th minute thanks to a goal by A. Diallo, with no apparent assist. Y. Diomande extended the lead in the 32nd minute, assisted by Diallo himself. Despite the deficit, Burkina Faso fought, albeit unsuccessfully, to reduce the gap. Their effort was limited by Ivory Coast’s defensive solidity and their inability to convert their shots into clear scoring opportunities.
Late in the game, B. Toure sealed the match with a goal in the 87th minute, securing the Ivorian victory. Ivory Coast’s dominance was reflected in the final statistics: 20 total shots compared to Burkina Faso’s 9, although only 4 of those shots were on target. The referee, Ali Mahmood Mahmood Ismail, showed two yellow cards to Ivory Coast and one to Burkina Faso in a match that, despite the result, was not without tension.
