Independiente Medellín Dominates Cúcuta Despite Opponent’s Expulsion
Cúcuta, Colombia – In a match held at the Estadio General Santander, Independiente Medellín secured a convincing victory over Cúcuta, in a match corresponding to the sixth round of the Colombian Primera A. The match, officiated by Wilmar Hernando Montaño Guevara, was marked by intensity and cards.
Medellín took the lead early in the 16th minute with a goal from D. Moreno, assisted by F. Fydriszewski, momentarily silencing the home crowd. However, the match became complicated for Cúcuta towards the end of the first half when J. Agudelo received a red card in the 43rd minute. Despite playing with ten men, Cúcuta managed to reduce the deficit before halftime thanks to a penalty converted by L. Berdugo in the 45th minute.
In the second half, Independiente Medellín demonstrated their superiority. A. Serna extended the lead in the 54th minute, quickly followed by a goal from J. Montaño in the 56th minute, who was assisted by the same D. Moreno who opened the scoring. Despite a slightly favorable possession for Medellín (55% against 45%), Cúcuta fought, albeit with less effectiveness. The match became more frictional in the final minutes, with several yellow cards shown to players from both teams. In the end, Independiente Medellín took all three points from Cúcuta.
