Independiente Thrashes Vélez Sarsfield in Avellaneda
Independiente achieved a resounding 3-0 victory over Vélez Sarsfield at the Estadio Libertadores de América in Avellaneda. The match, part of the 5th round of the 2025 Argentine Professional League’s first phase, was officiated by Dario Herrera. Independiente dominated possession, controlling 56% of the game.
The goals came in the second half. Gastón Avalos scored a brace, in the 31st and 43rd minutes, the second assisted by Alexis Sporle. Leandro Cabral added a third goal in the 78th minute, assisted by Martín Giménez.
Despite Vélez’s attempts to fight back, Independiente’s attacking efficiency proved decisive. Independiente registered 15 shots (6 on target), compared to Vélez’s 9 (1 on target). This disparity in shots on goal highlighted Independiente’s superiority. Both teams received two yellow cards each. The match remained relatively clean despite a total of 20 fouls.
