Tense Draw at the Capwell: Emelec and Deportivo Cuenca Share the Spoils
Guayaquil witnessed an emotionally charged and card-filled match between Emelec and Deportivo Cuenca, ending in a draw. The encounter, played at the Estadio George Capwell Banco del Austro, was marked by intensity and numerous fouls.
Emelec suffered an early blow with the expulsion of J. Ruiz in the 12th minute, forcing them to play with ten men for much of the match. Deportivo Cuenca, in turn, capitalized on their numerical superiority and greater ball possession (55% compared to Emelec’s 45%) to generate more scoring opportunities.
The first goal of the match came in the 56th minute, scored by J. Ordoñez for Deportivo Cuenca, assisted by M. Piedra. However, Emelec did not give up and, despite the difficulties, managed to equalize in the 77th minute thanks to a penalty converted by F. Leon.

Regarding scoring opportunities, Deportivo Cuenca outnumbered Emelec with 14 total shots, although only 3 were on target. Emelec, for its part, attempted 11 shots, with 2 directed at the goal. In the end, a draw that reflects the struggle and dedication of both teams in a very competitive match.
