Monagas SC Triumphs Over Defensor Sporting at Centenario
In a thrilling match played at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, Monagas SC secured a 2-0 victory against Defensor Sporting in the first round of the 2025 CONMEBOL Libertadores. The game, officiated by Peruvian referee Kevin Ortega, saw Defensor Sporting dominate possession (58%), but Monagas proved more clinical in front of goal.
The goals arrived in the 34th minute, courtesy of T. Rodríguez with an assist from A. Romero, and in the 61st minute, through A. Romero, who was set up by E. Gallardo. Despite Defensor Sporting’s superiority in possession and shots (17 shots to Monagas’ 7), Monagas’ efficiency was key.
