Benfica Edges Out Sporting CP in Tense Lisbon Derby
Benfica defeated Sporting CP 2-1 in a thrilling match at Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica in Lisbon. The game, corresponding to matchday 33 of the Primeira Liga, was marked by intensity and numerous yellow cards.
Sporting CP took the lead in the 4th minute with a goal from Trincao, assisted by Gyokeres. However, Benfica turned the game around in the second half. Akturkoglu scored the equalizer in the 63rd minute, assisted by Pavlidis. Benfica showed greater possession (61%) and generated more scoring chances (14 shots), although with low effectiveness. Sporting, despite their lower possession (39%), managed four shots on target.
The match was full of fouls, with 23 from Benfica and 14 from Sporting. In addition, there were four yellow cards for Benfica and two for Sporting.
