Athletic Club falls to AS Roma in a tense and hard-fought match
Rome, March 6, 2025.- AS Roma defeated Athletic Club in a thrilling UEFA Europa League Round of 16 match at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. The match, refereed by Sandro Schärer of Switzerland, was marked by tension, with a total of five yellow cards and one red card for Athletic Club.
Despite having more shots on goal (16 vs 9), Athletic Club showed low effectiveness, with only one shot on target. Roma, with 59% possession, was more efficient, scoring two goals. Iñaki Williams put the Basque side ahead in the 50th minute, thanks to an assist from Paredes. However, Angelino equalized in the 56th minute, and Shomurodov sealed the victory in the 90th minute.
