Al-Nassr suffers agonizing defeat against Al Sadd in AFC Champions League
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – In a thrilling match played at Al-Awwal Park, Al-Nassr suffered a 2-1 defeat against Al Sadd in the sixth matchday of the 2024 AFC Champions League group stage. Despite dominating possession (72%) and creating more scoring opportunities (12 shots to Al Sadd’s 3 on target), the Saudi team couldn’t capitalize on their superiority.
Al Sadd took the lead in the 53rd minute with a goal from Akram Afif. Al-Nassr equalized in the 80th minute with an own goal by Romain Saiss, but the joy was short-lived. A penalty converted by Adam Ounas in added time sealed the victory for the Qatari team. The match was marked by tension, with three yellow cards shown, one to each team. Despite the loss, Al-Nassr had 9 corners compared to Al Sadd’s 3. Their possession dominance did not translate into goals, and Al Sadd secured the victory thanks to their greater efficiency.
