Barracas Central defeated Newell’s Old Boys 2-0 in a thrilling match played at the Estadio Julio Humberto Grondona in Avellaneda. The game, corresponding to the 7th round of the 2025 Argentine Professional League, was a closely contested affair where Newell’s dominated possession (58%) but Barracas Central proved more clinical in front of goal. The opening goal arrived early, in the 2nd minute, thanks to a goal from Juan Candia, assisted by Santiago Rosané. The match was interrupted by numerous fouls, with Barracas Central committing 11 and Newell’s 13. Both teams received yellow cards; 3 for Barracas (Mater, Demartini, and Barrios) and 2 for Newell’s (Herrera and Sotelo). In the closing stages, Duarte sealed the victory with a goal in the 90th minute. Despite more possession and more shots (12 for Newell’s vs 11 for Barracas), Barracas Central’s efficiency in the opposition’s penalty area was key to securing the three points.
