Universidad Católica dominates Deportes Iquique with a resounding victory
Santiago de Chile, August 31, 2024. Universidad Católica dominated Deportes Iquique with a convincing 4-2 win at the Estadio Santa Laura-Universidad SEK on Saturday. The UC, controlling possession throughout the match, opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a goal from Bryan Alexis Carvallo Urrutia, assisted by Esteban Puch.
However, Deportes Iquique showed resilience and leveled the score in the 45th minute through a goal from Esteban Hoyos, who capitalized on a pass from Sebastián Pino.
The second half witnessed a surge in offensive intensity from the UC. Gonzalo Tapia put the Crusaders ahead in the 48th minute, receiving an assist from Facundo Zuqui. Benjamin Ampuero doubled the lead just two minutes later, with a goal also assisted by Zuqui.
Despite their attempts to claw their way back into the game, Deportes Iquique found themselves unable to break down the strong UC defense. While ultimately defeated, the Iquique team managed to score two goals in the closing minutes of the match.
