Operário-PR edges Guarani Campinas in tense match with late red card
Operário-PR beat Guarani Campinas 1-0 in a tense match on Tuesday night at Estádio Germano Krüger in Ponta Grossa, for the Brazilian Serie B Championship. The only goal of the game was scored by Boschilia from a penalty in the 64th minute.
Guarani started better, with more possession and creating some opportunities, but it was Operário-PR who opened the scoring. Boschilia converted the penalty with confidence, after a foul committed by Matheus Bueno on Daniel Lima.
Guarani tried to press for an equalizer, but Operário-PR defended well and even had chances to extend their lead. At the end, Guarani ended the game with one less player after Reinaldo received a red card in the 90th minute.
Despite losing the game, Guarani had more possession (56% to 44%) and took more shots (9 to 16), but only 4 of their shots were on target, compared to 8 from Operário. The match was quite contested, with 14 fouls each and 2 yellow cards for Operário-PR and 5 for Guarani.
With the victory, Operário-PR reaches 45 points and consolidates itself in the qualifying zone for Serie A. Guarani remains in the relegation zone with 34 points.
