Newport County 1 – 3 Cheltenham
Newport County were defeated by Cheltenham in an EFL Trophy match that was marred by a red card for a home player.
The visitors dominated possession and created more chances, but Newport County stayed in the game until James Carney’s dismissal in the 43rd minute.
Kane Evans’ goal in the 33rd minute put Newport County in the lead, but Cheltenham reacted with two goals in the second half: the first from Harry Sohna in the 67th minute and the second from Jake Colwill in the 75th minute.
Newport County finished the game with only 10 men and only one shot on target in the second half, while Cheltenham dominated possession and took advantage of their numerical superiority.
