Sporting CP thrashed Nacional in Ilha da Madeira
Sporting CP convincingly defeated Nacional in the second round of the Portuguese Primeira Liga, played this Saturday at the Estádio da Madeira. The Lisbon lions dominated the match from start to finish, with a final score of 7-1 reflecting the visitor’s superiority.
The match started at a high pace with both teams looking for the goal from the first minute. Sporting CP took the lead in the 16th minute with a goal from P. Goncalves, assisted by D. Braganca. Nacional reacted and managed to equalize the score in the 36th minute with a goal from N. Thomas, assisted by Matheus Dias. However, Sporting CP quickly regained the lead thanks to a goal from Trincao in the 41st minute, assisted by P. Goncalves.
In the second half, Sporting CP was relentless and extended their lead with goals from V. Gyokeres (from a penalty in the 51st minute), Trincao (in the 56th minute), D. Braganca (in the 66th minute) and V. Gyokeres again (in the 76th minute). Nacional tried to react but failed to generate danger in the opponent’s goal.
Sporting CP dominated possession (65%) and outshot Nacional (21 to 11), while Nacional accumulated more fouls (9 to 10). The referee of the match, Luís Godinho, showed only one yellow card, to Nacional player Ulisses.
With this victory, Sporting CP gets their second win in the League and sits at the top of the standings. Nacional, on the other hand, suffered their second consecutive defeat and is placed in the lower part of the table.
