Heart of Midlothian vs. Plzeň: A game of few chances, Czech victory
Heart of Midlothian hosted Plzeň at Tynecastle Park in Edinburgh for the UEFA Europa League play-off round. The game was characterized by a low number of goal-scoring opportunities, with the victory going to the Czech team by a narrow margin.
The first half went by with little excitement, neither team managed to create real danger in the opponent’s goal.
In the second half, the game picked up slightly. In the 58th minute, Heart of Midlothian received their first yellow card, through J. Grant. Plzeň responded with a change in the 58th minute, bringing on M. Vydra.
Heart of Midlothian sought the goal with several changes: B. Spittal and Y. Oda came on in the 67th minute, followed by Y. Dhanda in the 72nd. However, luck was not on their side.
Plzeň took advantage of their opportunity in the 76th minute when L. Cerv scored the only goal of the game, assisted by D. Vasulin.
The Scottish Hearts made two more changes in the 82nd minute, bringing on A. Forrest and J. Wilson. Plzeň, meanwhile, made two further substitutions in the 87th minute (L. Hejda) and in the 90th (T. Sloncik).
The match ended with two additional yellow cards for Heart of Midlothian, awarded to F. Kent and G. G. Taylor Dosman in the 90th minute.
The final result was 1-0 in favour of Plzeň, who advance to the next phase of the competition.
