Bayer Leverkusen beats FC Carl Zeiss Jena in the German Cup first round
Bayer Leverkusen beat FC Carl Zeiss Jena 1-0 in the first round of the German Cup on Wednesday. The only goal of the game came in the 52nd minute from Jonas Hofmann, who took advantage of an assist from Alejandro Grimaldo to open the scoring.
The match started with an intense pace and both teams fought for possession of the ball. Bayer Leverkusen dominated possession with 74%, while FC Carl Zeiss Jena only had 26%. Despite the difference in possession, Jena managed to keep up the pace for the first few minutes of the encounter.

In the second half, Leverkusen took control of the game and scored the winning goal in the 52nd minute. Grimaldo cut in from the left flank and crossed for Hofmann to finish precisely.
Despite substitutions from both teams in the second half, Bayer Leverkusen failed to extend their lead.
FC Carl Zeiss Jena tried to react in the final stretch of the match, but Leverkusen defended their lead with solidity.
