El Nacional defeats Barcelona SC in a vibrant match
El Nacional triumphed over Barcelona SC with a 3-0 score in an exciting match played at the Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa in Quito. The home team dominated the encounter from the start, scoring two goals in the first half and sealing the victory with a goal in the final stretch of the game.
In the 3rd minute, A. Cabeza opened the scoring with a quality goal, assisted by G. J. Cortez Casierra. El Nacional’s joy was cut short in the 13th minute when F. Mora Penaranda received a yellow card. Despite this, El Nacional continued to press and found their second goal in the 32nd minute thanks to an own goal by V. Mendoza.
In the second half, the match became more intense, with both sides searching for the goal. F. Mora Penaranda received another yellow card in the 61st minute, which turned into a red card for a double booking. El Nacional, with a man down, had to defend more resolutely, but found their third goal in the 88th minute, courtesy of F. Martinez.
Barcelona SC, despite the defeat, had more possession of the ball (61% vs 39%) and attempted more shots on goal (16 vs 7), but couldn’t find the formula to overcome the solid El Nacional defense.
With this victory, El Nacional adds three important points in the 2024 Liga Pro, while Barcelona SC leaves empty-handed.
