Columbus Crew defeats Los Angeles FC in Leagues Cup Final
Columbus, Ohio – The Columbus Crew were crowned 2024 Leagues Cup champions after an exciting back-and-forth match that saw them defeat Los Angeles FC 3-1 in the final played at Lower.com Field.
The match began at a high pace with both teams eager for victory. The Crew dominated possession for most of the game, but LAFC generated some dangerous opportunities.
The first goal of the match came in the 45th minute when Cucho Hernandez capitalized on a cross from M. Farsi to make it 1-0 in favor of the Columbus Crew. LAFC tried to react in the second half and managed to equalize the score in the 57th minute thanks to a goal by O. Giroud, who took advantage of an assist from M. Bogusz.
However, the Crew were undeterred and regained the lead in the 90th minute thanks to a second goal from Cucho Hernandez, this time assisted by A. Matan. And just minutes later, J. Russell-Rowe sealed the match with a third goal for the Columbus Crew, also assisted by Cucho Hernandez.
The Crew finished the match with 66% possession, while LAFC had 34%. The Columbus Crew managed to get 1 shot on target, which resulted in 3 goals, while LAFC only managed 1 shot on target, which resulted in one goal.
The referee of the match, Oshane Nation from Jamaica, issued a yellow card to R. Camacho of the Columbus Crew, as well as E. Atuesta and M. Chanot of Los Angeles FC.
The Columbus Crew became the first champions of the Leagues Cup, a tournament that brings together the best teams in MLS and Liga MX.
