Atletico Mineiro beats Vasco da Gama in a thrilling match
Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais – Atletico Mineiro secured a resounding 3-1 victory over Vasco da Gama in the first leg of the 2024 Copa do Brasil semi-finals, played at the Arena MRV.
The match began with an early goal from Coutinho for Vasco da Gama in the 14th minute, assisted by E. Rodriguez. However, Atletico Mineiro refused to be intimidated and responded with a goal from Guilherme Arana in the 38th minute, assisted by Hulk.
In the second half, Atletico Mineiro displayed more dominance and extended their lead with a goal from Paulinho in the 44th minute, assisted by Guilherme Arana. Vasco da Gama attempted to mount a comeback, but failed to find the back of the net and ultimately lost the match.
Atletico Mineiro dominated possession (62% vs. 38%), had more shots (13 vs. 7), and were more precise in their finishing (6 on target vs. 1).
Vasco da Gama, on the other hand, received two yellow cards, while Atletico Mineiro received none.
The victory for Atletico Mineiro gives them a significant advantage heading into the second leg, which will be played next week in Rio de Janeiro.
