Al Hilal Omdurman Upsets Young Africans in Dar-es-Salaam
Al Hilal Omdurman pulled off a stunning upset victory over Young Africans at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar-es-Salaam, in the opening match of the 2024 CAF Champions League group stage. Despite Young Africans dominating possession (59%), the Sudanese side proved ruthlessly efficient.
Young Africans controlled the game, registering 9 shots (3 on target), but Al Hilal Omdurman’s defense held firm. The difference was made by two goals in the latter stages of the match. Adama Coulibaly broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute with an assist from Abaker. Then, in stoppage time, Youssef Mozamil sealed the victory with a goal in the 90th minute, assisted by Omer. Despite having 9 corners and creating more chances, the home side couldn’t overcome Al Hilal’s resilience, losing 0-2. Coulibaly received a yellow card in the 81st minute. Al Hilal Omdurman committed 11 fouls compared to Young Africans’ 9.
