Sturm Graz Triumphs Over WSG Wattens in a Tense Encounter
Sturm Graz secured a 3-0 victory against WSG Wattens in a fiercely contested match at the Tivoli Stadion Tirol in Innsbruck. The Austrian Bundesliga Round 16 game was characterized by tension and multiple red cards.
W. Boving opened the scoring for Sturm Graz in the 15th minute, assisted by M. Biereth. However, the match descended into chaos with a total of eight yellow cards and two red cards issued. WSG Wattens had two players sent off: C. Ustundag (two yellow cards) and S. Skrbo, while Sturm Graz saw T. Chukwuani dismissed for a second yellow card.
Despite WSG Wattens’ numerical advantage in the second half, Sturm Graz proved more clinical. S. Jatta netted the second goal in the 81st minute, and M. Yalcouye added a third in the 85th minute, assisted by T. Horvat.
Despite having less possession (42% compared to WSG Wattens’ 58%), Sturm Graz proved more efficient in attack, registering 10 shots (5 on target) to WSG Wattens’ 7 (only 1 on target). WSG Wattens’ possession dominance was ultimately undermined by their indiscipline and lack of attacking prowess.
