Blackpool Defeats Wigan in a Hard-Fought Match at The Brick Community Stadium
Wigan, December 20, 2025 – Blackpool secured an important victory on their visit to The Brick Community Stadium, home of Wigan, in a match corresponding to the 21st matchday of League One. Despite Wigan dominating possession (54% versus Blackpool’s 46%) and having a higher number of shots (20 against 8), Blackpool proved more effective in front of goal.
The first half was tense, with several yellow cards shown, including one to Wigan player D. Costelloe, and three to Blackpool players: F. Horsfall, O. Casey, and J. Husband.
The goals came in the second half. A. Fletcher opened the scoring for Blackpool in the 59th minute, assisted by D. Taylor. Just five minutes later, in the 64th minute, D. Taylor extended Blackpool’s lead, this time assisted by A. Fletcher. Despite Wigan’s efforts, which attempted to create danger with 20 shots, only 3 were on target. Blackpool, with fewer shots, demonstrated greater accuracy. The match concluded with another yellow card for Blackpool (A. Lyons) and one for Wigan (R. Borges Rodrigues). Blackpool ultimately secured the win.
