Volos NFC Stuns Panathinaikos at Home
Volos, Greece – In a hard-fought match at the Panthessaliko Stadium, Volos NFC secured a significant victory over Panathinaikos, a result sure to surprise many. The match, part of Super League 1 Round 9, was decided by a single goal from L. Lamprou in the 23rd minute, assisted by G. Mygas.
Although Panathinaikos dominated possession with 68% compared to Volos NFC’s 32%, they failed to translate that superiority into goals. The visiting team generated 14 shots, only 4 of which were on target, while Volos NFC, with a more conservative strategy, capitalized on one of their few opportunities to make the difference.
The match was also characterized by a high number of fouls, 16 by Volos NFC and 15 by Panathinaikos, reflected in the numerous yellow cards shown by referee Anastasios Papapetrou. F. Djuricic of Panathinaikos was cautioned in the 35th minute, while S. Hamulic, N. Fortuna, E. Tasiouras, M. Siampanis and A. Triantafyllou of Volos NFC received yellow cards in the 56th, 79th and 90th minutes respectively. Despite Panathinaikos’ territorial dominance and their five corner kicks compared to none from Volos NFC, the home team clinched the win.
