Vikingur Reykjavik suffered a 2-1 defeat against Panathinaikos in a thrilling match played at Helsinki’s Bolt Arena, part of the UEFA Europa Conference League knockout round play-offs. The game, played on February 13th, 2025, saw Panathinaikos dominate possession (66%) compared to Vikingur’s 34%.
The Icelandic side took an early lead with a goal from D. Atlason in the 13th minute, assisted by E. Agnarsson. Atlason received a yellow card in the 41st minute. Vikingur extended their lead in the 59th minute through a goal by M. Vilhjalmsson. Despite conceding two goals, Panathinaikos pushed forward, demonstrating their dominance in shots (15 to 7). While Vikingur committed more fouls (18 to 10), Panathinaikos only received one yellow card compared to Vikingur’s three. Finally, a penalty converted by F. Ioannidis in the 90th minute secured a 2-1 victory for the Greek team.
