Vasco da Gama Controls Possession, but Lanús Holds Firm in Goalless Draw
Rio de Janeiro, April 23, 2025.- Vasco da Gama controlled possession (67%) and created more scoring opportunities (12 shots, 2 on target) in their CONMEBOL Sudamericana group stage match against Lanús at Estádio São Januário, refereed by Gery Vargas (Bolivia). However, Lanús’s strong defense and Vasco’s lack of finishing left the score at a 0-0 draw.
The match was a tense affair, with a total of 26 fouls committed (13 by each team). Several yellow cards were shown: two to Vasco (Jair and Adson) and four to Lanús (Salvio, Izquierdoz, Méndez, and Cabrera). Despite their possession and shot advantage, Vasco couldn’t break down the Argentinian defense. Lanús, with 33% possession, managed 12 shots, but only one was on target.
