Fluminense Edges Out Vasco da Gama in Tense Clash at Estádio Nilton Santos
Rio de Janeiro – In a match filled with tension and cards, Fluminense managed to overcome Vasco da Gama at the Estádio Nilton Santos, in the Carioca – 1 semi-finals. Despite Vasco da Gama dominating possession with 63%, Fluminense was more effective in front of goal.
The match was characterized by physical play and numerous fouls. Andres Gomez of Vasco da Gama received the first yellow card in the 21st minute, quickly followed by a flurry of bookings for Fluminense in the 22nd, 23rd, and 44th minutes for F. Bernal, J. Freytes, and L. Acosta respectively. K. Serna put Fluminense ahead in the 31st minute, thanks to an assist from F. Bernal.
