Carioca Derby Ends in a Draw at São Januário
Rio de Janeiro, August 27, 2025 – Vasco da Gama and Botafogo played out an intense Carioca derby at the Estádio São Januário, in the quarter-finals of the Copa Do Brasil. The match, officiated by Anderson Daronco, ended in a draw, leaving the tie open for the return leg.
Botafogo struck first with an early goal from Arthur Cabral in the 8th minute, assisted by Alex Telles. The visiting team showed initial solidity, controlling the pace of the game. However, Vasco da Gama reacted strongly and found the equalizer in the 17th minute through Jair, who took advantage of an offensive play to beat the opposing goalkeeper.
The remainder of the match was characterized by a contested midfield battle, with both teams seeking to impose their style. Possession favored Vasco da Gama with 54%, while Botafogo focused on quick counterattacks.
