Universitatea Cluj secured a convincing 4-1 victory over Petrolul Ploiesti in a thrilling match at the Cluj Arena in Cluj-Napoca. The game, part of the 20th round of the Romanian Liga I, was dominated by the home side, who controlled possession (55%) and created significantly more scoring opportunities (19 shots, 6 on target).
Vlad Blanuta opened the scoring in the 51st minute, assisted by Mamadou Thiam. Thiam added a second for the home side in the 61st minute, and Blanuta completed his brace in the 66th minute, again assisted by Thiam. Petrolul Ploiesti pulled one back in the 75th minute through P. Papp, assisted by Ricardinho. However, Universitatea Cluj sealed the victory with a goal from L. Masoero in the 87th minute.
The match was also characterized by disciplinary issues, with several cards shown. Petrolul Ploiesti received four yellow cards and a red card for P. Papp, while Universitatea Cluj received only one yellow card.
