Universitario de Deportes defeated Barcelona SC 1-0 in a thrilling match at the Estadio Monumental in Lima, corresponding to the fifth matchday of the 2025 CONMEBOL Libertadores group stage. The match, refereed by Andrés Matonte from Uruguay, was a clash of styles with Barcelona SC dominating possession (56%) while Universitario proved more effective in attack.
Despite having more shots (17 to 14), Universitario only managed 3 shots on target, one of which resulted in the winning goal by Alex Valera in the 45th minute, assisted by Jorge Concha. Valera, however, had a challenging afternoon, receiving a yellow card along with Corzo and Carabali. Barcelona SC also saw a yellow card for Rivero.
