Peruvian Clásico Ends in Scoreless Draw Amid Tensions
Lima, Peru – In a match held at the Estadio Monumental and officiated by Michael Espinoza, Universitario and Alianza Lima drew 0-0 in a clash marked by intensity and controversy. The clásico, valid for the seventh round of the Clausura in the Peruvian Primera División, was far from a goal-scoring fest, but it lacked no heated moments.
From the outset, the match was characterized by a physical and contested game. The first half saw a flurry of yellow cards for both teams, with early cautions for J. Castillo, H. Barcos, A. Valera, and E. Flores for Universitario, and R. Garces for Alianza Lima. A goal by A. Valera for Universitario was disallowed by VAR due to an offside position, further increasing the tension on the field.
The second half was no less controversial. C. Zambrano received a yellow card, and K. Quevedo was sent off for Alianza Lima, leaving the *Blanquiazules* with ten men. Universitario, with greater possession (51%), tried to take advantage of their numerical superiority, but failed to convert their chances. Alianza Lima, despite having less possession (49%), defended tooth and nail. Towards the end of the match, J. Velez was booked for Universitario, and R. Garces received a second yellow, and subsequent red, leaving Alianza Lima with nine players.
The match, although with greater territorial dominance by Universitario, ended goalless, leaving a bitter taste for both teams and plenty to discuss regarding the refereeing decisions.
