LDU Quito Thrashes Universidad Católica in Thrilling Match
In a thrilling encounter at Quito’s Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa, Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito defeated Universidad Católica 4-2 in matchday 14 of the 2024 Liga Pro second stage. Despite having only 32% possession, LDU displayed clinical finishing that proved too much for their opponents.
Ángel Arce was the star of the show, scoring a hat-trick in the 9th, 32nd, and 46th minutes. His first goal was a stunning strike assisted by Ramírez. The second came from team play, and the third followed an excellent pass from Ade. Leandro Piovi also added a goal in the 26th minute. Although Universidad Católica dominated possession (68%), they only managed two penalty goals, scored by Palacios (84th minute) and Nieto (89th minute).
A late red card for Domínguez didn’t diminish LDU Quito’s emphatic victory, highlighting their effectiveness in front of goal. Universidad Católica, despite more shots, struggled to break down LDU’s defense.
