United Arab Emirates Thrashes Qatar in Thrilling Match
Abu Dhabi, November 19, 2024 – The United Arab Emirates secured a resounding 5-0 victory over Qatar in a match of the 3rd round, group 6, of the Asian World Cup 2026 Qualifiers, played at the Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The match, officiated by Khalid Saleh Al-Turais from Saudi Arabia, was dominated by the UAE despite significantly lower possession (28%).
The rout began early, with a goal from F. Lima in the 4th minute, assisted by Y. Al Ghassani. Lima scored again in the 45th minute, first from a penalty and then with an open play goal, completing a hat-trick with another penalty in the 56th minute. Y. Al Ghassani sealed the victory with a goal in the 73rd minute, assisted by Khaled Ebraheim.
Despite the superiority on the scoreboard, the match was marked by tension, with six yellow cards handed out between both teams. The UAE had 8 shots on goal (5 on target), while Qatar only managed 5 shots, none of them on target. The difference in effectiveness was abysmal.
