Santa Fe Edges Out Union Magdalena in a Rough Match
Santa Marta, March 30, 2025 – Independiente Santa Fe secured a victory over Union Magdalena at the Estadio Sierra Nevada in a matchday 11 clash of the Colombian Primera A league. The 1-0 win for Santa Fe was a hard-fought battle marked by a red card for Union Magdalena and numerous yellow cards for both teams.
Union Magdalena received an early yellow card for Marlon Payares in the 12th minute, but the situation worsened in the 19th minute when Daniel Mera was sent off. Despite being a man down, Union Magdalena fought valiantly, but Santa Fe dominated possession (56% to 44%). Santa Fe also accumulated yellow cards for Andrés Rodríguez (34th minute), Edwin Olivera (63rd minute), and Óscar Fernández (89th minute). Union Magdalena, in addition to Mera’s red card, saw yellow cards for Marlon Payares, Ricardo Márquez, and Kevin Díaz.
The winning goal came in the 65th minute, courtesy of Óscar Albornoz, assisted by Óscar Fernández. Union Magdalena managed 9 shots (2 on target), while Santa Fe registered 14 shots (2 on target). Santa Fe also held a slight advantage in corner kicks (5-4). Despite a determined effort from the home side, Santa Fe’s numerical advantage and superior possession ultimately proved decisive. A tough, physical encounter filled with yellow cards resulted in a Santa Fe victory.
