Ujpest falls to Zalaegerszegi TE in a tense Budapest clash
Ujpest suffered a home defeat against Zalaegerszegi TE in a match played at the Szusza Ferenc Stadion in Budapest, corresponding to matchday 20 of the Hungarian NB I. The game, marked by tension and expulsions, ended with a 1-3 victory for the visiting team.
Ujpest started better, scoring first in the 17th minute thanks to a goal by M. Karamoko, assisted by F. Brodic. However, Zalaegerszegi TE dominated possession (60%) and the initiative, creating more scoring chances (19 shots, 5 on target). Zalaegerszegi TE’s superiority translated into two goals in the second half. First, C. Denes equalized the match in the 83rd minute, and S. Medgyes scored the winning goal in added time.
The match was full of cards. Ujpest received three yellow cards and one red (Lacoux), while Zalaegerszegi TE saw two yellow cards and one red (Almasi). Despite their dominance, Zalaegerszegi TE couldn’t avoid expulsions, which demonstrates the intensity of the match. Ujpest, despite their numerical inferiority during the second half, fought until the end but couldn’t prevent the defeat.
