Monterrey Beats Pumas in Thrilling Match at Estadio Olímpico Universitario
Monterrey defeated Pumas 3-1 in a vibrant match corresponding to matchday 12 of the Liga MX Clausura 2024. The game, played in Mexico City and officiated by Ismael Rosario López Penuelas, was marked by intensity and cards.
Monterrey took the lead in the 49th minute with a penalty goal scored by Sebastián Canales. In the 54th minute, Iván Fimbres extended the lead for Rayados with a goal assisted by Canales. The third Rayados goal arrived in the 71st minute, thanks to a goal by Germán Berterame, also assisted by Canales.
Pumas scored a consolation goal in added time with a penalty converted by Gustavo Martinez, but the result was already practically decided.
The match was exciting and decisive. Although Pumas had more possession (51%), Monterrey was more effective in shots on target (5 out of 9 shots on target for Monterrey vs 3 out of 13 for Pumas). Both teams received several cards; Monterrey received two yellow cards and one red card in the final minutes, while Pumas received one yellow card.
