Heated Clásico Universitario: Universidad Católica Secures Victory in a Tense Match
Santiago – In an emotionally charged Clásico Universitario, Universidad Católica defeated Universidad de Chile with a score of 1 to 0 at the Claro Arena. The match, corresponding to the 25th matchday of the Primera División, Season 2025, was marked by high intensity from the start, reflected in the numerous cautions and a sending-off.
From the 2nd minute, the match already showed its toughness with a yellow card for L. Di Yorio of Universidad de Chile. The first half continued with fouls and bookings for both teams, culminating in a yellow card for J. Valencia of U. Católica just before halftime.
The second half was no less hectic. In the 53rd minute, G. Medel of Universidad Católica received a red card, leaving his team with ten men. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Universidad Católica managed to open the scoring in the 73rd minute with a goal from A. Canales, assisted by E. Bello.
Universidad de Chile, despite dominating ball possession with 62% compared to their opponent’s 38%, failed to convert their opportunities, ending the match with 14 total shots, of which only 4 were on target. Universidad Católica, on the other hand, capitalized on their chance and defended their lead tooth and nail.
