Tigres defeats Pumas in a thrilling encounter at Estadio Universitario
Monterrey, Mexico – Tigres UANL defeated UNAM Pumas 2-1 in a vibrant match played at Estadio Universitario on April 20th, as part of matchday 17 of the Liga MX Clausura 2024. The match, refereed by Daniel Quintero Huitrón, was marked by intensity and the effectiveness of Tigres.
Tigres’ goals came courtesy of a brace from Florian Gorriaran, who opened the scoring in the 45th minute with an assist from Jesús Angulo and sealed the victory in the 65th minute, with a pass from Juan Brunetta. Pumas pulled one back through a penalty converted by Gustavo Martinez in the 54th minute.
Although Pumas slightly dominated possession (51% vs 49%), Tigres showed greater attacking efficiency, generating 20 shots (5 on target) compared to their opponent’s 7 (2 on target). The match was punctuated by yellow cards, with three for Tigres (Javier Sánchez, Jesús Garza and Florian Gorriaran) and one for Pumas (Rómulo Funes Mori). The victory leaves Tigres in a good position in the table, while Pumas will have to recover from this defeat.
