Goalless Draw in Tianjin Marred by VAR Decisions
Tianjin, China – In a tightly contested match at the TEDA Football Stadium, Tianjin Teda and Qingdao Youth Island played to a 0-0 draw. Overseen by referee Yi Huang, the Super League match, part of the Regular Season – 20, was characterized by intense play and controversial refereeing decisions.
Despite Tianjin Teda controlling 49% of the possession, slightly less than Qingdao’s 51%, the home side generated a higher number of scoring opportunities, with 15 total shots compared to Qingdao’s 6. However, only 3 of those shots were on target, highlighting a lack of precision.
The game was mired in controversy when, in the 36th minute, a goal by Yang Fan for Tianjin Teda was disallowed after a VAR review for a prior handball. In the second half, Qingdao Youth Island suffered a similar fate in the 86th minute, when a goal by A. Yakubu was ruled out for offside, also after VAR intervention.
