Sydney FC defeated Western Sydney Wanderers 4-2 in a thrilling match at Allianz Stadium in Sydney. The game, part of round 18 of the A-League, was characterized by intensity and a back-and-forth scoreline. Sydney dominated possession (64%) and created more scoring opportunities (21 shots, 8 on target), but the Wanderers were more clinical in the first half.
P. Klimala opened the scoring for Sydney in the 7th minute, assisted by A. Cáceres. However, Z. Sapsford quickly equalized for the Wanderers in the 9th minute. An own goal by R. Grant in the 41st minute put Sydney ahead at halftime. The second half was a trade of blows. Sapsford scored again for the Wanderers in the 49th minute, but Sydney responded with goals from Segecic (88′) and Cáceres (90′), securing the victory following an earlier own goal from Grant. The match ended with a 4-2 win for Sydney FC, despite the Wanderers’ pressure. Yellow cards were shown to Leo Sena (Sydney) and Borrello and Thomas (Wanderers).
