Sweden thrashes Northern Ireland in a vibrant friendly
Solna, March 25, 2025.- Sweden convincingly defeated Northern Ireland 5-1 in a friendly match played at the Strawberry Arena in Solna. Swedish dominance was evident from the start, reflected in their 59% possession of the ball. Goals came early and regularly: Emil Holm opened the scoring in the 7th minute, assisted by Alexander Isak. Benjamin Nygren extended the lead in the 33rd minute. The second half maintained the pace, with Kristoffer Sema (59th minute) and Isak again (64th minute) scoring to make it 4-0. Anthony Elanga capped off the scoring for Sweden in the 77th minute. Northern Ireland managed a consolation goal in the final minutes through Iain Price in the 90th minute, but the Swedish victory was already unquestionable. Sweden had 16 shots on goal (6 on target), while Northern Ireland managed 13 (5 on target). The match was marked by Sweden’s superiority in all aspects of the game, although Northern Ireland tried to react in the final minutes.
