Mexico Dominates Suriname in Arlington with Montes Brace
Arlington, Texas – The Mexican national team defeated Suriname at AT&T Stadium in a match corresponding to the group stage of the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2025. The match, officiated by Honduran referee Selvin Brown, saw Mexico control possession with 61% compared to Suriname’s 39%.
The first half was goalless, but the second half witnessed the offensive awakening of the Mexican team. César Montes emerged as the star of the match by scoring a brace. The first goal came in the 57th minute, assisted by Alexis Vega. Just six minutes later, Montes repeated the feat, this time with a pass from Jesús Quiñones.
Despite the Mexican dominance, Suriname tried to react, although with little success. The Surinamese team had five shots in total, of which only two were on target. Mexico, on the other hand, generated 15 scoring opportunities, with six direct shots on goal. One of Mexico’s goals was disallowed for offside in the 75th minute, after a VAR review.
The match, marked by a total of 31 fouls (18 by Mexico and 13 by Suriname), culminated in a yellow card for César Montes in the 88th minute. Mexico takes an important victory on their way to the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2025.
