Epic Comeback for Albacete at El Molinón
Gijón, Spain – In a thrilling match at the Estadio Municipal El Molinón-Enrique Castro Quini, Albacete Balompié staged a spectacular comeback against Sporting Gijón. The match, corresponding to the seventh matchday of the Segunda División, ended with a score favoring Albacete, even though Sporting dominated much of the game.
Sporting Gijón took a commanding lead in the first half. J. Dubasin opened the scoring in the 11th minute, followed by C. Gelabert Pina in the 30th minute and G. Campos in the 37th, putting the score at 3 to 0. The game seemed decided, but A. Puertas scored for Albacete just before halftime, assisted by A. Meléndez, giving his team some hope.
In the second half, Albacete came out with a renewed attitude. Agus Medina further reduced the deficit in the 71st minute, assisted by J. Lazo. The climax came in the final minutes: J. Morcillo tied the score in the 88th minute, assisted by A. Puertas, and sealed the match in the 90th minute with a penalty goal. Morcillo himself received a yellow card just after scoring.
The match was officiated by Andres Fuentes Molina. Statistically, Albacete had a slight advantage in ball possession with 52% compared to Sporting’s 48%. Albacete had 12 shots (7 on target and 3 off target) and earned 8 corners, while Sporting had 11 shots (6 on target and 4 off target) and earned 2 corners. There were 12 fouls committed by Sporting and 9 by Albacete. One yellow card was shown to Sporting and two to Albacete.
