Goalless Draw in a Match Dominated by Sporting Cristal
Lima, Peru – In a match corresponding to the ninth round of the Apertura of the Peruvian Primera División, Sporting Cristal and Alianza Atlético drew 0-0 at the Estadio Alberto Gallardo. Despite the overwhelming dominance of Sporting Cristal, who enjoyed 70% of the ball possession, they failed to translate their superiority into goals.
The home team generated a total of 16 shots, but only 3 found the net defended by the Alianza Atlético goalkeeper. Nine shots went wide. In addition, Cristal had 10 corner kicks, without being able to take advantage of them to break the tie. The discipline of the local team was reflected in 8 fouls committed and two yellow cards received.
For its part, Alianza Atlético, with a more conservative approach and 30% possession, also tried to surprise with 16 shots, although only one was on target. Their greater number of fouls, 12 in total, earned them a yellow card. While looking for the rival goal, the visiting team focused on defending their goal and avoiding defeat.
Referee Micke Palomino officiated the match without major incidents, showing two yellow cards for Sporting Cristal and one for Alianza Atlético. The match left the feeling that Sporting Cristal could have done more with their dominance, but the defensive solidity of Alianza Atlético prevented them from taking all three points.
