Alianza Lima Secures Hard-Fought Victory in Huancayo
In a match filled with emotions and controversy, Alianza Lima managed to defeat Sport Huancayo 2 to 1 at the Estadio Huancayo. The match, corresponding to matchday 15 of the Clausura of the Peruvian First Division, was marked by cards and intensity in every play.
Paolo Guerrero opened the scoring for Alianza Lima in the 23rd minute, following a play that didn’t require assistance. However, the initial dominance of the visitors was affected by the sending off of R. Pellejero from Sport Huancayo in the 18th minute.
Despite playing with one player less for a large part of the match, Sport Huancayo maintained ball possession at 58% and generated a greater number of scoring opportunities, with 19 total shots. Alianza Lima, on the other hand, was forced to fall back and look for counter-attacks. The match was further complicated for “Los Blanquiazules” by the expulsion of P. Ceppelini in the 75th minute.
In the final minutes, the match became frantic. H. Barcos extended Alianza Lima’s lead in the 90th minute, assisted by S. Pena. However, Sport Huancayo responded immediately, with a goal from D. Carabano in the same minute, after an assist from S. Barboza, narrowing the gap.
Referee Edwin Ordonez showed a total of six yellow cards and two red cards, reflecting the toughness of the match. Alianza Lima adds three important points in their fight for the championship.
