Sparta Praha Wins Match Marred by Red Cards
Prague, Czech Republic – Sparta Praha defeated Sigma Olomouc in a match held at the epet ARENA, which, despite clear dominance in possession (76% for the home side), was full of cards and expulsions. Referee Ondrej Pechanec had a busy afternoon. The first half was tense, with several yellow cards and the expulsion of J. Koutny in the 37th minute, leaving Sigma Olomouc with ten men. Despite being outnumbered, Sigma resisted until the 56th minute, when A. Rrahmani, assisted by P. Vydra, scored the only goal of the match. Sparta Praha controlled the game with 76% possession, although they only managed 3 shots on target out of the 13 they attempted. Sigma Olomouc, with 24% possession and 4 shots (none on target), failed to trouble the rival goalkeeper. The match culminated in another expulsion, this time of J. Kral in the 90th minute, leaving Sigma with nine players. The match, corresponding to the fourth matchday of the Czech Liga regular season, leaves Sparta Praha with three valuable points and Sigma Olomouc with the bitterness of a defeat conditioned by discipline.
