Italy U21 edges out Slovakia in a hard-fought match in Trnava
Trnava, June 14, 2025 – The Italy U21 team defeated Slovakia in a tight match held at the CITY ARENA – Štadión Antona Malatinského, as part of the UEFA U21 Championship. The only goal of the match came early, in the 7th minute, thanks to a precise strike by C. Casadei, assisted by W. Gnonto, which gave the Italian team the lead.
The match, officiated by Serbian referee Nenad Minaković, was marked by a high number of fouls, 28 committed by Italy and 15 by Slovakia. The intensity of the game resulted in several yellow cards: J. Jakubko and L. Sauer for Slovakia, and M. Zanotti, C. Ndour and L. Koleosho for Italy.
Although Slovakia dominated possession with 54% compared to Italy’s 46%, they failed to convert their goal-scoring opportunities. The Slovaks attempted 13 shots, but only one was on target. Italy, on the other hand, generated 10 shots, with two directed at the opponent’s goal. The victory allows Italy to earn important points in the group stage of the tournament.
