Sharjah FC Triumphs Over Istiqlol in Thrilling AFC Cup Encounter
Sharjah, United Arab Emirates – Sharjah FC secured a convincing 4-1 victory over Istiqlol in a captivating AFC Cup 2024 group stage match held at the Sharjah Stadium. The match, officiated by South Korea’s Woosung Kim, saw the home side dominate possession (61%) and create more scoring chances (12 shots to 6).
Luanzinho opened the scoring for Sharjah FC in the 21st minute, assisted by A. Saleh. However, Istiqlol responded swiftly with a goal from E. Panshanbe in the 24th minute, assisted by A. Dzhalilov. O. Camara extended Sharjah FC’s lead before halftime (30th minute), with an assist from Biro. In the second half, Caio converted a penalty in the 58th minute to seal the victory for Sharjah FC. The match saw yellow cards issued to Luanzinho of Sharjah (52nd minute) and A. Dzhalilov of Istiqlol (59th minute), along with three more yellow cards for Sharjah FC (A. Ghanim 69′, A. Al Hosani 81′, and M. Meloni 86′).
Despite the loss, Istiqlol displayed moments of good football, but Sharjah FC’s superior possession and finishing proved decisive in determining the final outcome.
