Serbia Mounts Comeback Victory Over Latvia at Home
Leskovac, Serbia – In a match held at the Stadion Dubočica, Serbia secured an important victory over Latvia on the tenth matchday of the European World Cup Qualification Group. The match, officiated by Spaniard Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea, saw Latvia take an early lead in the 12th minute with a goal by V. Gutkovskis, assisted by J. Ikaunieks.
However, Serbia did not falter and showcased their dominance in ball possession, reaching 67% throughout the match. The Serbian persistence paid off at the beginning of the second half when A. Katai equalized the score in the 49th minute, with an assist from A. Zivkovic. Shortly after, in the 60th minute, A. Stankovic, again assisted by Zivkovic, put Serbia ahead on the scoreboard.
Despite the Latvian effort, which accumulated 16 fouls and received two yellow cards (R. Savalnieks in the 59th minute and E. Daskevics in the 62nd minute), they were unable to reverse the situation. Serbia, with a cleaner game (only 8 fouls and no cards), controlled the rest of the match and took all three points. Serbia dominated the stats with 18 total shots against Latvia’s 6.
