Senegal Defeats Egypt in a Hard-Fought Match in Tangier
Tangier, Morocco – In a tense and intense match, Senegal managed to defeat Egypt 1 to 0 in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations, held at the Stade Ibn-Batouta. The match, refereed by Pierre Ghislain Atcho from Gabon, was characterized by Senegal’s dominant possession (65%) and a physical game from both teams.
The first half was a battle in midfield, with several yellow cards shown by the referee. Egypt, with less possession (35%), tried to contain the Senegalese attacks and look for counter-attacking opportunities, although with little effectiveness in attack, as they only took one shot that went wide. Senegal, on the other hand, generated more danger, with 12 shots, four of which were on target.
The only goal of the match came in the 78th minute, scored by S. Mane, which tilted the balance in favor of the Lions of Teranga. Despite Egypt’s late effort, with more fouls committed and only one shot going wide, they failed to equalize. Senegal advanced to the final, after having achieved six corner kicks, while Egypt only managed one. Senegal received two yellow cards, while Egypt received one.
