SC Freiburg defeated VfL Wolfsburg 3-2 in a thrilling match at the Europa-Park Stadion in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. The game, part of the Bundesliga 2024’s matchday 14, was officiated by Sascha Stegemann. Freiburg’s victory was built on their efficiency and intensity.
Freiburg controlled possession (52%) and created more scoring chances (18 shots, 9 on target), although Wolfsburg also threatened (20 shots, 5 on target). Lucas Höler opened the scoring for Freiburg in the 42nd minute, assisted by Lucas Holer. Kubler extended the lead in the 51st minute, assisted by Michael Gregoritsch, who himself scored Freiburg’s third goal in the 61st minute, thanks to a pass from Ritsu Doan.
Wolfsburg mounted a late comeback. Jonas Wind pulled one back in the 75th minute, assisted by Ridle Baku, and Mattias Svanberg scored Wolfsburg’s second goal in the 83rd minute, assisted by Yannick Gerhardt. Despite their efforts, the comeback fell short. The match also saw several yellow cards issued to players from both teams.
